Germany – The Mercedes-Benz Group AG*, an automotive corporation based in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg has celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Atego distribution truck. Originally launched in 1998 at the RAI International Commercial Vehicle Show in Amsterdam, the vehicle covered the 6.5 – 15 tonne vehicle category, with four cab variants. Six months later at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Trade Show, Mercedes-Benz launched the heavy-duty Atego (18-26 tonnes), with a higher frame and more powerful engine (OM 926 LA six-cylinder in-line engine 7.2 l displacement, 240 kW/326 hp).

The Atego was altered in 2004, with a new G85-6 automatic gearshift transmission as well as ABS, ASR and Brake Assist systems to optimise road safety. Furthermore, it was adapted to the Euro IV emissions standards and maintenance intervals were increased to 120,000 kilometres, an addition of 20 percent.
