Italy - PEI Mobility is a business unit and brand name of P.E.I. Srl based in Bologna, Italy. PEI Mobility, which for nearly twenty years has produced bellows* for gangways on articulated buses is now offering articulation systems for buses. Two years’ ago, in 2022**, when the PEI Mobility brand was first created, the company announced that it was to diversify its manufacturing capabilities through the formation of a completely new division, established with the purpose of designing and manufacturing articulation systems for buses. Asked why it decided to enter this market segment, the company indicated that several city bus clients had enquired whether PEI would be interested in supplying a complete gangway solution. This then led to the decision by PEI to respond to market demand with a complete range of innovative joints suitable for every type of chassis.

Subsequently PEI Mobility says that it has made a considerable investment in this new venture, stating that while it is not a startup, it is a new division for producing a new product and service. Several specialist engineers were recruited as part of a separate team for this project back in 2021, and their endeavours have resulted in a new design of articulation system for low (and high floor) articulated buses; the first articulations were presented at IAA Transportation 2022 in Hannover.*
