Perrone deploys autonomous shuttle in Philadelphia business park

Autonomous shuttle in Philadelphia Navy Yard

USA – Pennsylvania’s first autonomous shuttle, installed with self-driving technology supplied by Perrone Robotics Inc of Charlottesville, Virginia, has started operating in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, according to a press release from Perrone.

The shuttle in question is a converted minibus which has been retrofitted with Perrone’s autonomous driving hardware (called ‘TONY’). Perrone claims it is the first automated transit van which is compliant with Buy America, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990). It can accommodate nine passengers and a wheelchair; a wheelchair ramp provides access from a roadside curb.
