Daimler Truck explores the import of liquified green hydrogen from Abu Dhabi

Daimler and Masdar MoU

UAE / Germany – Daimler Truck AG of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Baden-Württemberg has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state-owned renewable energy company, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar*), to explore the feasibility of importing liquified green hydrogen from Abu Dhabi (in the UAE) to Europe by 2030. The company has taken another step toward decarbonising the road freight transportation industry, with plans to make its entire range of trucks (across Europe, the U.S., and Japan) CO2-neutral by 2039.

To decarbonise, Daimler Truck is assessing both battery and hydrogen-powered vehicles through a “dual-track strategy.” The company is currently looking at the feasibility of using liquified hydrogen in its trucks through a customer trial fleet referred to as “the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck prototype.”
