Lunaz receives TfL approval to operate repowered refuse vehicles in London

Lunaz refuse vehicle

UK – Based at the Silverstone Technology Park in Northamptonshire, startup repowering company, Lunaz Group Ltd, announced that its repowered electric refuse collection trucks have been granted permission from Transport for London (TfL) to operate on the streets of the capital. The vehicle achieved a 5 star Direct Vision Standard* (DVS) rating for driver visibility, making it safe to operate in one of Europe’s busiest cities. Lunaz vehicles are fitted with an external camera monitoring system as well as digital cameras on the wing mirrors, eliminating rear and blind sports around the vehicles.

This is a significant step towards more local authorities’ adopting repowered refuse vehicles as replacements to end of life diesel refuse vehicles. Last year at the Cenex event in Millbrook, UK, T&BB witnessed the repowered Lunaz 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Econic diesel-powered refuse vehicle. The company claims each vehicles saves 210 tonnes of carbon a year.
