Detailed UK ZEBRA 2 funding scheme allocations announced

South West of England

UK – The UK government has published a detailed list of local transport authorities that will be receiving various parts of the second round of  (GBP 143 million) funding to aid local authorities in the acquisition of zero-emission buses through the Department of Transport under the UK government’s Zero Emission Buses Regional Area (ZEBRA, now ZEBRA 2) Scheme*. Originally announced late last year, the public capital investment will help fund the acquisition of 955 new zero-emission buses for 25 local authorities. Orders must be placed by the 31st of January 2025 and the first portion of funds (GBP 40 million) prioritise remote parts of the UK, partly funding 318 zero-emission buses in these regions.

The South West of the country will be receiving the largest portion (GBP 43.4 million). The individual council receiving the highest amount of funding is the West Sussex County Council (GBP 10.1 million). Other winners include the Plymouth City Council (GBP 9.5 million), West Northamptonshire Council (GBP 9.4 million) and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority  (GBP 9.4 million).
