Northvolt begins construction of battery cell gigafactory in northern Germany

Sweden / Germany – At the end of March, Northvolt AB of Stockholm, Sweden began construction of a new battery cell gigafactory with a targeted production capacity of 60 GWh per annum, to be opened in 2026.

The gigafactory, called ‘Northvolt Drei’, is located in the town of Heide in Schleswig-Holstein. 3,000 jobs will be created following the opening of the factory. Once operational, Northvolt says the factory will draw some of its energy from nearby wind farms.
