Switch and IIT Madras collaborate in launch of electric shuttle bus service

India - Bengaluru / Gujarat – Electric bus and light van builder, Switch Mobility Automotive Ltd of Bengaluru (a subsidiary of Switch Mobility Ltd of Leeds, UK, which is a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai) has announced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), an education institution to introduce 9-metre low entry electric buses, the Switch EiV91, on its campus for shuttle service operations. The vehicle will be built at Ashok Leyland’s bus facility in Ennore.

The EiV 9 is a 9-metre, 16-ton gross vehicle weight low entry city bus, powered using a Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC Motor offering an output of 235Kw @ 1330 rev/min fitted with lithium ion NMC batteries in modular battery packs for different storage capacity options. The 9m chassis is fitted with full air suspension, and disc brakes with EBS at the front and rear.
