USA – The solar division of Phillips Industries Inc, based in Santa Fe Springs, California, has launched a new kind of panel for trucks and trailers which it says are more durable and provide more auxiliary energy than conventional glass designs.

Phillips says that its patented design is made from monocrystalline silicon, which is thinner and more flexible than glass. The new solar panels are peeled and stuck onto the body of the truck or semi-trailer. When connected to the truck’s electrical systems or, alternatively, to a trailer refrigeration unit or liftgate, the panels can provide as much as 34 hours of power without diesel, according to Phillips.
