UK truck registrations fell for the first time in two years in Q1 2024

UK – The UK market for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs, i.e., trucks >6t) in the first quarter of 2024 shrank for the first time in two years, with a 3.9% decline compared to the same period of the year before, according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
11,068 new HGVs were registered in Q1 2024, only 449 fewer units than the same period of 2023. In fact, registrations of rigids grew by 8.4% from 5,838 to 6,327: rigids between 6 and 16 tonnes grew by 15.6% (1,926 to 2,227), while rigids over 16 tonnes increased by 4.8% (3,912 to 4,100). On the other hand, artics declined by 16.5%, registering 4,741 units (Q1 2023: 5,679). 2-axle artics proportionally decreased the most, falling 34% from 629 to 415 units; 3-axle artics fell by 14.3% from 5,050 to 4,326.
