ACT Expo 2024: Mack Trucks presents all-electric refuse truck

Mack LR Electric with Heil side loader

USA – At the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2024, held between 20-23 May at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Mack Trucks Inc of Greensboro, North Carolina presented three electric trucks, including one fully-electric waste collection vehicle with a side-loading body.

The ‘LR Electric’ truck on display had a ‘RevAMP Automated Side Loader’ body fitted by Heil Environmental Industries of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The lift arm, compactor, and auger are fully electric and run on an independent battery pack, with a capacity of 46kWh – enough, Mack claims, to pick up more than 1,200 bins on a single charge. To accommodate the electric refuse body, Mack removed the electric power take-off unit and alter the LR Electric’s centre of gravity “due to the dense packing capabilities of the auger system”.
