Air Products to build hydrogen refuelling network across California
By Luke Willetts - 24th July 2024
USA – Global Vice President for hydrogen and mobility solutions of American industrial gases company Air Products and Chemicals*, Inc. Eric Guter gave a keynote speech at the 2024 ACT Expo in Las Vegas in May, where he announced plans to build a hydrogen refuelling network stretching from Northern to Southern California. The commercial multi-modal hydrogen refuelling stations will be equipped to service the heavy-duty vehicle market such as commercial and municipal trucks as well as hydrogen-powered coaches. According to Guter, each high-capacity station will be able to refuel 200 heavy-duty trucks or 2000 cars per day. This is a strategic move by the company (the largest supplier of hydrogen in the world) which already operates six hydrogen refuelling stations in Southern California. California was chosen due to the large green State subsidies available.
Guter continued: “Building a robust hydrogen economy infrastructure is critical to the success of the energy transition and meeting our climate change goals. California is a leader in the energy transition and a first mover in making zero-emission, heavy-duty transportation in the U.S. a reality. As the world’s largest supplier of hydrogen, Air Products has committed to investing $15 billion by 2027 in clean energy megaprojects around the world. Working together, energy companies, vehicle manufacturers and governments can accelerate the energy transition and generate a cleaner future for all.”
