USA – Volvo Group North America Inc of Greensboro, North Carolina has announced that its ‘VNR’ and ‘VNL’ heavy-duty tractor units are now available with a low-NOx (nitrogen oxide) engine which it says is compliant with new regulations.
The VNR range and current VNL models with a power rating of 455 horsepower and 1,650-lb-ft of torque can now be ordered with an engine which complies with the latest regulations set down by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The engine comes with a new linear exhaust aftertreatment system, comprising diesel oxidation catalyst, diesel particulate filter, aftertreatment heater, and selective catalytic reduction. Each component of the aftertreatment system can be individually serviced or replaced with ease, Volvo NA claims. In addition, Volvo NA says it integrated a 48-volt alternator and battery which supply power to the heater during startup and low-load situations.
