BYD to set up bus production in Azerbaijan

BYD to sell electric buses in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan / China – In partnership with local partner, Electrify Azerbaijan, part of the Sarda Group company, BYD Co Ltd of Shenzhen, China plans to build an electric bus plant in the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park in Sumqayit, north of Baku.
The Ministry of the Economy of Azerbaijan has facilitated licensing and helped find the site as the Chinese company plans to establish production in Q4 of this year (2024). The factory is expected to come on stream in full in 2025 with an initial annual capacity of 500 electric buses. The Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan has committed to purchasing 200 electric buses from BYD every year from 2025 to 2028. The first batch of 160 buses (K9UD) are to be imported and operated by local transport company BakuBus. BYD has committed an initial USD 34 million to this project as well as hiring 800 local workers.
