USA – Bloomfield, Connecticut-based Jacobs Vehicle Systems Inc, a subsidiary of drivetrain systems manufacturer, Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana, has announced fuel savings of 2.76 percent in its Jacobs cylinder deactivation (CDA) technology. As companies and countries look to transition to zero-emission transportation through increasingly strict emissions regulation, saving fuel and C02 emissions becomes critical.

According to Jacobs Vehicle Systems, “the CDA system automatically shuts down selected cylinders in low engine load conditions which reduces fuel consumption. When additional engine braking is required, the same components that deactivate the cylinders are repurposed to provide vehicle retardation using the latest 1.5-stroke High Power Density version of the Jake Brake compression release engine brake.”
