Israel – Imagry Ltd an autonomous driving software company based in Haifa, Israel, has launched a pilot program involving the first autonomous (level 4) bus operating on public roads in Israel. The trial, which is driver-supervised, is approved by the Ministry of Transportation and is being conducted in Nahariya in collaboration with Nateev Express, a public transport operator. The bus will operate on an 8-kilometre route through the city's busiest areas, starting and ending at Nahariya Mall. The initiative is part of Israel’s broader efforts to position itself as a leader in smart transportation technologies. For Imagry, the data from this trial will be used to further product development.
Imagry’s self-driving technology employs vision-based perception, using 11 cameras installed around the bus. This is combined with real-time mapping capabilities which negate the need for pre-downloaded HD maps; the software learns its environment as the vehicle navigates and receives visual information from the cameras.
