Ashok Leyland lands huge order for 2,104 buses in tender with Maharashtra State

India - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai has received an order for 2,104 fully built 12 metre Bharat Stage VI diesel powered buses from Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), valued at approximately USD118m. The vehicle order is to be delivered in a phased manner concluding in August 2025.

The vehicles are fully built AL Viking buses, which have a gross weight of 16.2t and are powered with Ashok Leyland’s iGen6 BS VI, H Series, 6-cylinder diesel engine with a peak output of 147kW (197hp) @ 2400 rev/min, and torque of 700Nm @ 1200-1900 rev/min; matched with a 6-speed synchromesh cable shift transmission with overdrive. The chassis offers a wheelbase of 5,334mm (210inch) with air suspension front and rear.
