Scania launches G38 gearbox as partner to 770hp V8

Scania G38 gearbox

SwedenScania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, has launched a new gearbox which is designed to pair up with its top-of-the-line 770-horsepower V8 engine.

The ‘G38’ gearbox is the latest iteration in the Swedish manufacturer’s ‘G-series’ which were first introduced in 2019.1 The G38 can handle up to 3,800 Nm of torque, making it well-suited to the 16-litre V8, which can deliver a maximum torque of 3,700 Nm. Scania says the G38 is shorter and lighter (by 60 to 70 kilograms) than the gearbox model which it will replace, the ‘GRSO926’, mainly due to the all-aluminium housing.
