SwedenVolvo Trucks Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden has announced it is committed to expanding the use of low emission steel in its vehicles, starting with 12,000 heavy-duty trucks next year.

In a press release, the Swedish manufacturer said it would make the frame rails on 12,000 ‘FM’ and ‘FH’ trucks, regardless of driveline, out of low-CO2 steel in 2025. It estimates that it will save 6,600 tons in CO2-equivalent emissions. The steel will be derived from multiple sources, including recycled material and fossil-free steel produced by SSAB, a company which uses hydrogen instead of coking coal in the iron ore reduction process.
