Mitsubishi-Fuso trials Ample’s truck battery-swapping station in Japan

Ample’s fully-automated battery-swapping stations

Japan / USA - Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC, brand Fuso and majority owned subsidiary of Daimler AG), headquartered in Kawasaki City in Japan’s Kanagawa prefecture, announced this month (August) it is carrying out automated truck battery-swapping demonstrations in Kyoto city in collaboration with Yamato Transport Company Ltd and US battery-swapping technology company, Ample Inc* of San Francisco.

Fuso confirmed the trials would take place using its light-duty eCanter trucks equipped with Ample’s swappable battery modules at battery swapping stations in Kyoto operated by Ample, in collaboration with its local partner Tokyo-based Eneos Holdings Inc. This follows an announcement by Fuso a little more than a year ago of plans to work with Ample to develop a battery swapping operation for trucks (Fuso and Ample to launch battery swapping trials in Japan).
