DAF delivers its first next-generation electric trucks
By Luke Willetts - 12th October 2024
Netherlands – Harald Seidel, President of Dutch truck manufacturer, DAF Trucks NV of Eindhoven used the IAA Transportation event (September 17-22) in Hanover, Germany to announce that DAF has delivered the first of its new generation electric trucks. As of August 2024, several Dutch transport operators have begun using the XD and XF Electric models, which have been designed for zero-emission operations. These trucks feature electric engines with up to 350 kW (480 hp) and can cover distances of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, making them ideal for both urban and longer-distance logistics. This is due to the Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) batteries known for their high energy density and durability.
According to Seidel, major Dutch operators including Oegema Transport and Cornelissen Transport have noted their excellent performance, particularly in terms of range and driver comfort. DAF has been expanding its electric offerings and now provides a full package, including charging infrastructure and driver training, to support the transition to electric fleets. In an attempt to ameliorate the problem of charging shortages for operators, DAF has joined an international platform called HDV Booking, which aims to streamline the reservation of public charging stations for electric trucks across Europe.
