Scania becomes first truck OEM to use recycled components on main assembly line

Scania transmission made with recycled parts

Sweden Scania AB, a subsidiary of the Traton Group based in Södertälje, Sweden, claims it is the world’s first truck OEM to make use of recycled parts on its assembly line, following the completion of a joint research project last month.

The Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer says it produced a new transmissions system on its main assembly line using some remanufactured parts from old gearboxes. Scania says the finished product was assessed on the same test rig used to check gearboxes made entirely from brand-new parts – thus proving that the “remanufactured” gearbox is “as good as new”.
