Jost and Fernride partner to develop autonomous solutions

Jost and Fernride

Germany – German truck and trailer components company, Jost-Werke AG announced a partnership with German autonomous truck solutions developer Fernride GmbH based in Munich, to collaborate on the development of solutions that help automate truck operations in depots and on logistics sites. This will help resolve the driver shortages as well as increase the safety and efficiency of logistics operations on these sites.

Fernride produces a hardware kit – consisting of computers, remote connectors and sensors – to make them partially autonomous. The company refers to this as a "human-assisted autonomy" model, meaning that their vehicles can operate autonomously but remain connected to remote human operators who monitor and control them when necessary. This allows logistics companies to automate processes while maintaining necessary safety standards, as human operators can take control when required for complex manoeuvres or unexpected scenarios. This technology is already in use in ports and logistics centres by Volkswagen, HHLA and DB Schenker. This technology will combine with Jost’s safety products to make the vehicles safer and more efficient.
