Schmitz produces two-millionth semi-trailer axle at Altenberge plant

Schmitz workers at Altenberge celebrate production milestone of 2 million axles

Germany Schmitz Cargobull AG, a trailer manufacturer based in Horstmar, North Rhine-Westphalia, recently celebrated a significant milestone: the production of its two millionth semi-trailer axle at its plant in Altenberge.

Schmitz began production of its own axles at the Altenberge plant in 2004. Since then, it has manufactured 2 million of them, installing them on trailers made in Altenberge or shipping them to its other trailer plants in Europe and Turkey. In the 2023/24 financial period alone, the company produced approximately 124,000 axles. Schmitz says the implementation of a “fully automated, digitally controlled” axle production process in Altenberge last year has helped to bring down manufacturing costs and therefore the final cost of each trailer.
