USA – Drivetrain manufacturer, Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana is testing new products at the Electrification + Environmental Test Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, owned and operated by gearbox and e-axle manufacturer Allison Transmission Inc. The companies already have a good working relationship, having recently completed field tests of the new Cummins X15N 15-litre natural gas engine in combination with Allison’s 4000 Series fully automatic transmission. The tests include compatibility trials with Allison’s transmissions, ensuring that both companies’ products are optimised for low emissions and operational efficiency in commercial vehicle applications.
The 60,000 square-foot facility is the only one of its kind in the Midwest allowing for “advanced testing in controlled thermal environments and dynamometer road simulations that can replicate a broad range of duty cycles, offering the ability to test vehicle performance under various extreme conditions.” This allows Cummins to thoroughly test the engines’ performance, durability and emissions across a range of conditions. This is all set against the backdrop of increasingly stringent vehicle emissions standards in the U.S.
