USA - Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer, GILLIG LLC, based in Livermore, California, has won a contract with King County Metro in Washington, to supply 89 low-floor battery-electric buses (featuring BAE Systems Inc driveline) with an option to add up to 306 more, totalling up to 395 units. This order marks King County Metro’s first purchase of Gillig’s battery electric buses as it pushes toward a fully zero-emission fleet. Every bus will feature a 686 kWh battery, allowing for a long-range suitable for King County’s diverse routes across Tukwila and South King County. Gillig’s electric buses are built at its facility in Livermore California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company emphasises that its buses are "American-made," with all aspects of design and manufacturing occurring at its California facility using a U.S. workforce. This means that its buses adhere to the “Buy America Act”, which stipulates the spending of public money granted for public transport projects on American-made products.
