USASamsara Inc of San Francisco, California has launched a new feature with its AI dash cams for the automatic detection and prevention of drowsiness and inattention in commercial vehicle drivers.

Samsara’s ‘Drowsiness Detection’ is the American tech company’s answer to the growing market for software that can prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel. By monitoring the driver’s face and behaviour, the system can identify telltale signs of inattentiveness or drowsiness and alert the driver with an audio signal. It also logs these events and notifies the fleet manager in real time. The event logs can be viewed as aggregated reports on Samsara’s ‘Connected Operations Cloud’, allowing managers to identify and act upon patterns of driver drowsiness and inattentiveness recorded by the system.
