UK – The British market for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs, i.e., trucks >6t) continued to slow down in the third quarter of 2024, declining by 6% compared with the same period of the year before, according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

10,839 new HGVs were registered in Q3 2024, compared to 11,531 in Q3 2023. 61.5% of these were rigid trucks, which in fact grew as a segment by 6% from 6,293 units in 2023 to 6,668. The 6-16t rigid segment grew by 10.2% to 2,416 registrations, while the over-16t segment grew more slowly by 3.7% to 4,252. Registrations of artics fell by 20.4% from 5,238 to 4,171. This was caused by the continuing decline of 3+ axle artics, which fell 25.8% to 3,537. The 2-axle artic segment grew by 35.5% to 634 units.
