Westport sells interest in Weichai HPDI joint venture

Canada / China – Westport Fuel Systems Inc, a supplier of fuel injection systems for natural gas and hydrogen engines based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has announced the sale of its ownership interest in ‘Westport Weichai Inc’, a joint venture it set up with Chinese powertrain manufacturer Weichai Holding Group Co Ltd.
The announcement was made in the company’s third quarter 2024 financial results. According to the press release, Weichai was obligated to order certain volumes of Westport’s high-pressure direct injection (HPDI) systems prior to 31 December 2024 as part of the joint venture agreement between the two companies. However, Westport stated that “significant orders… have not been received to date”, and the company does not expect that any more orders will be placed by Weichai prior to year end.
