USAMotor Coach Industries (MCI), a subsidiary of the NFI Group based in Des Plaines, Illinois, has shipped its first battery electric coach to be built at its Pembina, North Dakota facility, following the reversal of a plan to close the site by 2025.

MCI states that its parent, NFI, decided against shutting down the Pembina facility at the end of last year. Since then, it has made “significant” investments in infrastructure and workforce at the site, including the installation of chargers, expansion of storage and commissioning areas, and retraining of staff, in order to prepare the facility for electric coach production.
