Ashok Leyland signs partner agreement with Nidec Corporation for electric motor supply in commercial vehicles

Ashok Leyland and Nidec sign e-Motor partnership
India / Japan - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai, India, has signed a partnership agreement with Japan’s electric motor drive manufacturer, Nidec Motor Corporation (Nidec), a subsidiary of Nidec Corporation1 headquartered in Kyoto. This agreement is expected to enable both Ashok Leyland and Nidec to work together in developing electric drive motors and control systems that will cater to the specific needs of India's commercial vehicle industry.
Ashok Leyland and Nidec are collaborating to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Electric Drive Units (EDUs). This CoE is to focus on developing advanced motor technologies and power electronics systems for electric vehicles, including innovative gear-shifting mechanisms. The partnership includes joint research and development, contributions to skilling and laboratory infrastructure, and the creation of novel motor technologies for Ashok Leyland and its subsidiary, Switch Mobility.
