Toyota’s Hiace LCVs that are to be tested with H2 ICE BEV hybrid drivetrain in Australia

Australia / Japan - Toyota Motor Corporation, headquartered in Toyota, Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, announced plans to launch trials of a newly developed hydrogen-electric hybrid system on public roads in Australia next year, as the automaker continues to diversify its range of eco-friendly vehicles. The automaker had already launched trials of hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in Australia last year.

Toyota confirmed it now plans to begin trials of a Hiace van fitted with its new hydrogen-electric hybrid powertrain in the country in early 2025. The company said it expects the vehicle to be the world’s first to be powered by both a hydrogen engine and an electric motor.
