Air Liquide and TotalEnergies deepen hydrogen collaboration

Air Liquide and TotalEnergies

France – After signing a JV with French energy giant, TotalEnergies, to roll out a hydrogen refuelling network for heavy-duty vehicles across Europe, Paris-based gas supplier, Air Liquide S.A. has announced a significant renewable hydrogen project at TotalEnergies' La Mède biorefinery in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. The EUR 80 million investment is expected to produce 25,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2028. This hydrogen will be used to feed the hydrogen refuelling network across Europe.

The renewable hydrogen production uses biogenic by-products from the refinery, avoiding the use of fossil hydrocarbons. This partnership underscores both companies' commitment to advancing decarbonisation and the hydrogen economy, aligning with EU regulations promoting sustainable fuels in transportation.
