USAThomas Built Buses Inc, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck North America based in High Point, North Carolina, has launched a new generation of battery electric school buses, featuring a new powertrain and a shorter wheelbase.

The second-generation ‘Jouley’ bus is part of Thomas Built Buses’ ‘Saf-T-Liner C2’ range of Type C (i.e., conventional) school buses which have been in production since 2004.1 The new Jouley is fitted with the ‘Accelera’-branded ‘14Xe’ drive system by Cummins, which integrates the motor, two-speed transmission, disc brakes, and rear-drive gearset in a single package mounted on the rear axle. In addition, the ‘Elfa’ inverters are also supplied by Accelera.
