Hess expanding in Austria

Hess double articulated lighTram Tosa trolleybus

Austria / Switzerland Carrosserie HESS AG, based in Bellach, Switzerland, has received an order for 80 units of its lighTram Tosa double-articulating trolleybus in Austria. Salzburg Linien, the local operator has ordered 60 buses, whilst 20 are set to go to the city of Innsbruck through operator Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetrieb und Stubaitalbahn GmbH IVB. The double articulated lighTram Tosa trolleybus measures  24.7m long and has a capacity for up to 220 passengers. The first buses will be delivered in 2027 with the orders set to be completed by 2032.

Innsbruck, which previously operated trolleybuses until 2007, plans to reintroduce them as part of its goal to fully convert its fleet to electric by 2035. The new Hess vehicles will facilitate the reconstruction of trolleybus sections and enable battery recharging along the routes. These developments highlight significant recent orders and the ongoing collaboration between Austrian cities and Hess in enhancing their public transport systems with modern trolleybuses.
