Netherlands – The Royal Terberg Group of IJsselstein, Netherlands has received a unique order from APM Terminals BV, the port operating subsidiary of Maersk: 30 fully-automated electric terminal tractors, which will operate in the new port known as ‘Maasvlakte 2’.

The thirty vehicles are Terberg terminal tractors fitted with drive-by-wire controls and an autonomous vehicle “kit” which is supplied by Embotech, a Swiss tech company.1 Terberg says that the self-driving technology allows the vehicles to operate without drivers in “complex and mixed traffic situations” in any weather. The Dutch manufacturer will take responsibility for acquiring certification for the tractors’ safety functions, integrating the autonomous vehicle kits, and overseeing the deployment of the vehicles.
