Belgium – The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) has published its 2024 EU commercial vehicle sales statistics, with new truck registrations declining by 6.3% (2024: 327,896 units) compared to 2023. This was driven by an 8.5% drop in HGV registrations, mitigated by a 5.6% increase in medium-duty truck registrations. Markets such as France (-2.9%) and Germany (-6.9%) shrank whilst Spain grew by 12%. No surprise that diesel-powered ICE trucks accounted for 95.1% of new registrations, whilst electrically charged trucks only recorded 2.3% which fell by 4.6% compared to 2023. This is despite government pressure and financial incentives.
The EU bus market was strong with growth figures of 9.2% (35,579 units) compared to 2023, with significant growth in Italy (26.7%) and Spain (10.3%) in particular. 2024 e-bus registrations rose by 26.8%, with the Italians leading the way once more with growth of 161.7% in 2024. Hybrid-electric bus sales declined by 16.1%, accounting for 9.8% of the market. Meanwhile, diesel bus registrations rose by 11.1%, expanding their market share to 63.1%, a 1 percentage point increase from 2023.
