Belgium – The European Union has awarded nearly EUR422m in grants to thirty-nine projects through its Connecting Europe Facility, helping to fund 4,900 electric charging points and alternative fuel stations across the trans-European road network.

The projects were selected after the first cut-off deadline was passed for the 2024-2025 “Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility”, a funding instrument administered by the Connecting Europe Facility. In total, the grants programme will support the following: approximately 2,500 charging points for light-duty vehicles; 2,400 charging points for heavy-duty vehicles; 35 hydrogen fuel stations for cars, trucks, and buses; the electrification of ground handling services in 8 airports; “greening” initiatives in 9 ports; and 2 ammonia and methanol bunkering facilities.
