GermanyPurem, the hydrogen and materials science arm of the Eberspächer Group, headquartered in Esslingen am Neckar, has entered into a strategic partnership with AMBARtec AG*, a Dresden-based hydrogen storage start-up, to scale production of its iron-based HyCS hydrogen storage systems. The partnership is focused on jointly preparing for the series production of standardised 20-foot hydrogen storage containers. Each container will house ten “iron‑nugget tanks” capable of storing up to 800 kg of hydrogen used by trucks, ships and rail applications.

Purem by Eberspächer brings expertise in materials science, automated welding and industrial-scale manufacturing, which AMBARtec lacks in-house. In turn, AMBARtec contributes its innovative HyCS design and technology. Together, they will optimise prototypes developed during pilot testing and advance product design toward cost-efficient mass production targeted from 2028 onward.
