UK – The post-pandemic growth of the British truck market ended in 2024, with registrations of heavy goods vehicles (i.e., trucks >6t) falling by 2.7% compared with the year before, according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

44,988 new trucks were registered during 2024, falling from the 46,277-figure reported last year, though still higher than the figure (40,716) reported in 2022. The SMMT said that the year-on-year change reflected a “strong” 2023 rather than a market downturn, though it expressed concern about the uptake of zero-emission tailpipe trucks, which fell by 7.3% in 2024.
