Wrightbus re-enters the coach market with revival of ‘Contour’

The new Contour coach range by Wrightbus

UK – Northern Irish bus manufacturer Wrightbus Ltd announced its re-entry into the British coach market with the launch of a new diesel model and the promised launch of a fuel cell electric variant in the near future.

The new coach is a 55-seater model powered by a Cummins X11 engine with 400bhp and an automatic gearbox from ZF. This vehicle was launched at a customer event held at the manufacturer’s Ballymena factory on 5 March. At some point during the next eighteen months, Wrightbus will launch a hydrogen-fuelled variant based on a fuel cell electric prototype showcased at last year’s Cenex Expo. When launched, the hydrogen coach will reportedly be a tri-axle vehicle with a range of up to 1,000 kilometres.
