Ballard secures fuel cell systems order from Europe

Canada—After announcing a corporate restructuring to reduce operating expenses by over 30% late last year, Ballard Power Systems Inc., a manufacturer of fuel cell systems based in Burnaby, British Columbia, announced orders for 90 fuel cell engines from two unnamed European (and UK) bus manufacturers. The order represents .4 megawatts (MW) of total rated power and comes at a welcome time as the company has delayed hydrogen infrastructure development due to the slower-than-expected adoption of fuel cell technology.
