UK – The British government has announced that it will make nearly GBP38m available in grants to local authorities to purchase zero emission buses, funding the introduction of up to 319 new buses in the next two years.

The government announced twelve separate awards to local authorities totalling GBP37.8m in value. The funding to local public transport in England comes in addition to the pre-existing Zero Emission Bus Regional Area (ZEBRA) scheme which, in its second iteration, has funded 995 zero emission bus purchases. According to the official announcement, the grants will unlock £3 of private money for every £1 awarded by the government.
