Siemens to invest CAD150m in battery production R&D centre in Canada

Germany / Canada – German technology company Siemens AG has announced that it will invest CAD150m or EUR97m over a span of five years in a new research and development centre in Canada, focused on electric vehicle battery production and recycling methods.

In the next several years, Siemens will establish a “Global AI Manufacturing Technologies Research and Development Center for Battery Production” which will initially focus on electric vehicle battery production. Expected outcomes of the research include higher, consistent quality in battery production; increased workforce productivity and capacity; reduction of battery scrap; and improved recycling and circularity. The CAD150m will be invested in labour, equipment, software, and ecosystem support.
