Port of Tilbury
UK—Construction is underway on an electric commercial vehicle (CV) charging hub at the Port of Tilbury*, set to become the largest of its kind in the UK. Fleete (Fleete Group Limited), a specialist in “fleet electrification solutions”, is spearheading the project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. The hub will feature a 5-megawatt (MW) shared-user facility designed to support over 60 commercial fleet operators based at the port, as well as HGVs passing through the area. The hub will include 16 high-capacity charging bays with 12 ultra-fast chargers (supplied by Heliox), each delivering up to 360 kW, as well as four megawatt chargers funded through the eFREIGHT 2030 project aimed at decarbonising the heavy-duty transport sector in the UK. GBP 1 million has been allocated through the UK government's Thames Freeport seed capital programme.
*The Port of Tilbury is a vital logistics hub, with an estimated 3,000 to 6,000 HGVs passing through daily. The new charging facility is strategically located to serve as a 'clean fuel' charging point along the A13 corridor into London, supporting the region's transition to sustainable transport solutions.
