British truck registrations fell by 12% in Q1 2025

UK – Registrations of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs, i.e., trucks >6t) in Britain fell by 12% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the year before, according to statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

9,738 new HGVs were registered between January and March, a marked decline from the 11,068 units reported last year. Registrations fell in almost every category. 5,656 rigid trucks were recorded, a 10.6% drop on last year. Of these, 1,890 were in the 6-16t segment and 3,766 were over 16 tonnes. 4,082 artics were registered, a 13.9% fall compared to 2024. In fact, registrations of 2-axle artics improved slightly year-on-year, growing 8.2% to 449 units, while 3+ axle artics fell 16% to 3,633.
