Switch Mobility’s facility in the UK facing possible closure

Switch Mobility's bus operation in UK in doubt.

UK / India – The Sherburn manufacturing and assembly facility in the UK belonging to Switch Mobility Ltd1, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland Ltd is facing possible closure, just months after an interview with Mahesh Babu, CEO of Switch, who provided a very different and positive outlook. Switch Mobility’s parent company’s Board has approved a consultation process with employees, which may lead to cessation of operations at the site.

Ashok Leyland says the review comes in response to economic uncertainty across the UK and Europe and a slower-than-expected shift to electric vehicles in the public transport sector. Despite a 15-year presence in the region, Ashok Leyland cited the lacklustre adoption of zero-emission buses in the UK as a key factor in reassessing its strategic direction.
