UK – Stagecoach South West and Devon County Council have announced that in order to support the deployment of its new electric bus fleet, the operator is building a new charging depot at the Matford Park and Ride site in Exeter to support the city's net-zero ambitions. This depot will feature 12 high-speed chargers, specifically designed to support 22 new electric buses operating within Exeter. Notably, the facility will also function as a Community Charging Hub, offering public access to charging points during periods when buses are not in service.
A total of 90 zero-emission buses will be rolled out across the South West of England. The lineup includes 48 Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV double-deckers, 10 Enviro100EV single-deckers, 20 Volvo BZL models (with MCV bodies), and 12 Yutong E10s. These buses are equipped with advanced features to enhance passenger comfort and accessibility, aligning with modern standards for public transportation. These vehicles cost a total of GBP 20 million with the Devon County Council contributing GBP 5.3 million through the UK government’s Department for Transport's Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme. The first batch of electric buses is scheduled to arrive in Exeter by summer 2025, with the entire fleet expected to be operational across the South West by early 2026.
