Germany / UK  – Multinational oil and gas company Shell plc, headquartered in London, UK, will begin testing megawatt charging systems at its 3,500 m² facility, Hamburg Technology Centre, by the end of 2025. The centre will house 12 automated benches, 50 configurable stations and extreme-weather chambers reaching from -40 °C to +50 °C. Furthermore, the facility will house “a 10 kV AC and 3.6 kV DC switchgear, plus a 5 MW bidirectional DC emulator”. The facility aims to test Megawatt Charging System (MCS) hardware and software from a multitude of charging manufacturers for the electric truck, bus, construction machines, agricultural vehicles and in the future, even electric ships. This investment signals a major investment in electrified transportation solutions. Shell’s technology centre will test supplier agnostic charging systems to ensure the systems are safe and robust in extreme conditions before roll-out.
