Senegal / Germany – Daimler Truck AG (headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) has signed a major Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Government of Senegal and local partner Global Truck Systems (GTS) to launch a CKD (completely knocked down) truck assembly operation in Dakar. The agreement includes provisions for land, workforce support, and tax incentives, and forms part of “a broader German-Senegalese development and climate partnership”. The plant, managed by Global Truck Systems, is expected to commence operations in late 2025, with the first units expected on Senegalese roads in 2026.
The new facility, situated on industrial land provided by the state, will assemble various Mercedes-Benz truck model series, including vehicles destined for both private industry (logistics) and government services (police, fire). Vehicles will be assembled from CKD kits supplied by Daimler Truck and tailored to meet operational requirements in West Africa. Powertrains will initially consist of conventional diesel engines.
